Looking back on Semicon Japan 2020

The annual SEMICON Japan Expo started on December 14, 2020. The event, completely online this time, will end on January 15th.

In previous years, IA Tokyo always organized and staffed a physical pavilion. This time the NL High Tech Pavilion was set up virtually with the companies BESI, Demcon, SCIL Nanoimprint, and VS Particle as participants. They also presented themselves, along with IA Tokyo, during a previously recorded webinar. The virtual NL pavilion is a great success with more than 1100 visitors and, as in previous years, has already led to good leads with various Japanese companies.

“Japan is one of the most important players in the international semiconductor industry,” says Eric van Kooij, Counselor | Innovation, Science, and Technology at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tokyo. “The Japanese companies in this sector have recently focused on open innovation with the focus on cooperating more with foreign high-tech companies”.

There are good opportunities for Dutch Semiconductor companies in Japan in the coming years.

Van Kooij: “The Japanese government and the business community are strongly committed to digitizing the economy, with a lot of attention for robotization, AI, IoT, and 5G. This dynamic also creates opportunities for Dutch companies, high-tech suppliers, and R&D institutions. Japan is also strong in the development of new, advanced materials and packaging that are used throughout the semiconductor chain ”

The virtual version of the event in 2020 made it possible for Dutch companies to participate as an exhibitor and meet contacts from Japan and other countries through the virtual pavilion and the webinar.
In 2021 SEMICON Japan may also be organized as a virtual or hybrid event (virtual and physical). After last year’s success, The Netherlands will undoubtedly be present again with the Holland High Tech Pavilion.

You can visit Semicon Japan 2020 until January 15
